Nigel Wilkinson - A Passionate Fused Glass Artist

After many years of collecting glass, Nigel began learning to make fused and slumped glass in 2016. He has since developed a range of skills with the tuition and encouragement of Merryl Sacher in her Melbourne studio. Cutting glass, fusing and slumping glass pieces have led to this website.

Nigel tries to fashion pieces that are decorative but always utilitarian. Platters, plates, bowls and butter and soap dishes are all useful. Vases have drainage holes so they work as attractive planters for small plants and herbs. The colour range is endless as is the decoration possible.

Rods of glass of all dimensions and ground glass all can be used with the glass base to fuse into a seamless whole before slumping into the chosen mould. Nigel has experimented with metals in the layers of glass. Thin sheets of copper, gold and silver and even alfoil were parts of this experimentation. Some worked, some didn’t. The glass pieces are very heat resistant and easy to wash in hot water. The temperatures at which they are fused produce a tough and resilient final product.
